Scenic Landscape of Balangan Beach
“If you want to go to quite beach, you may try Balangan Beach” said Ketut, the guy who works at the guest house where I am staying in for a moment. I told him that I am done with popular beaches, and what I want is to have a nice beach to sit and walk without so many people hassled me.
So, on Sunday afternoon, I called an online taxi through mobile application. I told the driver to take me to Balangan Beach.
“I did not take so many people to this place,” the driver told me. “Normally people prefer to go to Dreamland beach to here,”
I was quite happy. That what I was looking for. It was not difficult to reach the beach. It took 20 minutes from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. The road is good, but it has lack of direction, in my opinion. But if you drive with the locals, do not worry to get lost. Most of them knew about it or if they did not, there were always people around to ask.
So, we arrived at the beach. There was no entrance fee, but I had to pay Rp. 5,000.00 for the parking fee. No matter if I will park the car inside or the car just drop me inside, I still have to pay that fee. OK. It is not a big deal. And I heard, the local community use the money to maintain and clean the beach.
“I am sure you will enjoy the beach,” the driver said. “But, I am not sure that you will get the online taxi around here when you want to get back to Jimbaran. Our area does not reach this place, unfortunately,” he said. I thanked him and decided to think later about how I am going to get back home.
Balangan Beach is a tropical sandy white beach with enormous wave, made it perfect as heaven for surfers. Compared to Kuta and Seminyak, this beach is much more quite. It was not wrong if people call this as one of hidden beach in South Kuta Region. However, due to its frequently high wave, this place is more suitable for experience ones up to professional surfers. Swimming is not really recommended due to strong current along the shores. Therefore, this beach is perfect for relaxation by siting on the white sand, enjoying the sea breeze, or playing water at the edge of the shore. Some cafes and surfing boards renters are available. Due to its beautiful panoramic, this beach is also well-known for pre-wedding photoshoots. I met many that day.

Even though some hostels and guest houses are available nearby, this place is quite far from anywhere. If you do not have vehicles, it will be a bit difficult to move around. As predicted by the driver who dropped me there, I found a bit difficulties to find transportation back to Jimbaran. There are some transportation services that offer their service to transport people from Balangan to another, but the price is quite expensive. It took five times higher than the price of taxi online that dropped me to the beach. I finally found one person working there who wanted to return to Denpasar. He gave me reasonable price to take me back to Jimbaran with his motor bike.

It was dark already when I left the beach. To get back to city center, we had to pass small forests and some bushes. There were many stray dogs around, and some could be really ferocious. Two dogs even tried to catch us and run after our motorbike. They viciously barked and almost got my feet. So, friendly advice, better to rent a car or make a deal with the taxi online if you want to go to Balangan Beach. It is much much comfortable if you don’t want experience mine.

The perfect place for a wedding, as long as the dogs don’t disturb the ceremonies!

I could not agree more, Peter. The place is so romantic for wedding photoshoot. Fortunately, the dogs along the shore were friendly. Only the ones running around at the forest that need particular attention,

Very adventurous of you to try it with no transportation plan Nurul but your photos were well worth the effort! It’s a very beautiful spot – especially loved the red dress above the cliff.

Thank you, Tina. I just thought it was just 20 minutes driving from my guest house. So, what kind of problem that I will face. And I was quite wrong. Finding transportation back home was quite challenging..

Stunningly taken landscapes that take me right there. I love the shot of the bride with her veil flying. When I was reading this, I would have thought that you may have considered an arrangement with the cab driver to pick you up at the end of the day. As it turned out, you have such a story to tell, bike and dogs and all.

Thank you, Perpetua for your comment. Unfortunately, the taxi online services are not allowed in this area to respect the local livelihood. Few places offers the transportation back to city center, with the price almost five times higher than normal. It is too bad. Therefore, renting a car for a day and traveling to other places before coming to this beach sounds more reasonable.

I have never heard about this beach in Bali. People who have traveled to Bali only talk about Kuta, Seminyak and Nusa Dua.
Looks like a great exploration; great pictures, Nurul

Bali has very long coastal lines, Arv. But, the most famous ones are located on the South of the island, where Kuta and Seminyak are located. It is closed to international airport with various international destinations. Moreover, this areas are developed with good infrastructures and variety types of accommodation. You could find whatever you want. From hostels to five star hotels, cheap bars to luxurious beach clubs and many more. It depends on how much money you want to spend there, you will have the options. Additionally, Kuta and Seminyak Beaches are located next to the busy main road, and no entrance fee required to enter the beach. Meanwhile, Nusa Dua is located at the Southern part of the island, but it’s bit far from Kuta and Seminyak. Let say, it’s around 8 km distance. Unlike Kuta which spoils its visitors with many options, Nusa Dua is more purposed for fancy groups of hotels. You will not find any hostel in this area and makes it sound more exclusive.
The beach what I wrote above is also located on the southern part. But its hidden location makes people think twice coming here. As I wrote, renting a car could be the best options.

wow. Thanks for such a detailed analysis, Nurul. I think such places have their own charm and exclusivity. I don’t know when I will visit Bali but this information is very useful. Thanks.

Some of the pre wedding photos are so dramatic, the bride and her veil blowing in the wind and the bridesmaid in red. Nice!

Thank you, Anne. I found the one wearing the red looks so dramatic. It’s probably due to location where the photoshoot was taken. The bride stood at the end of the cliffs. If I were here, I would not that brave to do that. It needs such an effort to get that beautiful photoshoot.

The ‘red’ bride is my favourite. You were brave, to not have arranged transport to get back. I would’ve worried about that the whole time I was there!

Thank you, Tracey. I love the red too. I am not sure that I was brave enough or stupid enough. Hahaha..
